WEEKLY WRAP: 7.31 thru 8.6.2017: Busy Week - But Not Very Productive

Well, that's the busiest week I have had in a while, but not so much fun, as goals and clean sheets were hard to come by, and many players were just not on their squads. OK let's to it.

Germany, England and a few other countries started their leagues (except the top tiers) and many US guys were missing...not released or transferred, just not in the squad. Germany had the largest number of American players in action  - and goals 5. Of note Andrew Wooten's winner for Sandhausen, and of course, Christian Pulisic's for Dortmund in the Super Cup. Other scorers this week included Ryan Masch in a Swedish Cup game (admittedly against a minnow side) where he scored twice and a couple of goals in Australia one each from Tyler Fischer and Dylan Williams.

In the nets, Will Dieterich had another clean sheet in Iceland, returning to Haukar seems to have been a tonic, Jeff Gal, Paul Blanchette and Tim Murray all continued to win and are keeping their teams in the promotion hunt. Jonathan Klinsmann played the 2nd half of a friendly and maintained the shut out for Hertha

England's Premier League starts next weekend, then German Bundesliga the week after, so there is more action on the horizon at the highest level.

Transfers are still going on...Finland closes its window on the 9th, Sweden closes its window on the 11th  and Norway on the 17th. Three countries favored by young American players - so check our transfer blog for updates.

OK to the lists, the short list first.......

GK Quentin Westberg was the backup keeper for Auxerre as they win 1 - 0 over Lens in France's Ligue 2

Will Daniels (75) in Grindavik's 1 - 2 loss to Vikingur in Iceland's Pepsideild. Grindavik in a real skid, with 3 straight losses, remember they were league leaders a few weeks back, now 3rd and 9 points behind leaders Valur

Talking about Valur, Dion Acoff (21) joined the game at 69' and helped his team cement a massive 6 - 0 win over hapless Akranes in Iceland Pepsidelid. Valur are now 8 points clear at the top

TUESDAY

Josue Soto (69) for his new team AC Oulu held high flying Honka to a 2 - 2 draw in Finland's Ykkonen. Honka move into the top spot, of what looks to be a 3 team race for promotion, but only on GD. GK Tim Murray, who still has no losses to his name, will be disappointed after 2 straight clean sheets. BTW. Josue Soto joined AC Oulu yesterday and suited up for today's game, he was previously at FC Jaro

Royal Fennell (90 + Yellow) wore the captain's arm-band as Hallescher hosted Jena, in Germany 3Liga, losing 0 - 2, with no help from Manu who came off the bench at 46 and was red-carded at 53 (let his team down badly) so there was no come-back for Hallescher who now have only from their first 3 games

Joe Gyau (88 + Yellow) as Sonnenhof won 2 - 0 at home over Zwickau in 3Liga. Sonnenhof are now in 2nd place, on GD, in the early season

Christian Pulisic started for Dortmund and played most of the game as they fell foul to Italy's Atalanta losing 0 - 1

WEDNESDAY

Tyler Fischer Scored Avondale's 1st (& winning) goal as they traveled to South Melbourne and won 0 - 2 in Australia's NPL (Victoria) Avondale move up to 5th place, and they have a game 'in-hand' over the 3 teams directly ahead of them

GK Will Dietrich gets a Clean Sheet again for Haukar as they win 2 - 0 over Thor Akureyri in Iceland's Inkasso-deildin. Haukar up to 4th place and 4 points off the 1st promotion spot.

JC Mack went 73 as Selfoss lost at home 1 - 2 to Keflavik in Iceland Inkasso-deildin. Selfoss has now lost 3 of its last 5 and slipped to 7th and effectively out of the promotion race

Tanner Sica went 90, as Tindastoll lost their home game against Afturelding in Iceland Division 2. (Gregory Conrad was not in the squad for Afturelding - injured) Tindastoll are dangerously close to the red zone, while Afturelding are in 5th place, but 7 points behind the 1st promotion spot and realistically probably won't make up the difference

In Today's Friendlies

GK Jonathan Klinsmann came off the bench and maintained the Shut Out for Hertha as they beat Neftci Baku of Azebejan 4 - 0

THURSDAY

GK Paul Blanchette (90) did not get another shut out, but PEPO did win 2 - 1 over Kultsu, and now share top spot with KTP in Finland's Kakkonen (Group A)

GK Quentin Westberg was the backup keeper for Auxerre as they lost big to Le Havre 4 - 1 - no doubt 2 red cards had something to do with the result (3 goals in last 5 minutes)

James Gulley off the bench at 61' for his new team Karlslund as they win 3 - 1 over Eskilstuna City in Sweden's Division 2 (Norra Svealand) Karlslund now 5 points clear at the top of the table
