WEEKEND WRAP: Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday - All England All The Time

Happy New Year to you all and Thank You for your continued support of our Blog.

Peculiar to English football, those 6 day following Christmas, see teams (some) playing 3 games in 6 days. It heralds the half-way point in the season, and for fans a fantastic holiday gift. I extended the list this weekend to include Monday. We did see an Assist from Eric Lichaj and a clean sheet from Brad Guzan, so not a wash for our boys in England.

The Transfer Window has opened in a handful of countries - you can see the list here - and we have fired up our running list of transfers involving Americans here

FRIDAY

DeAndre Yedlin went 90 and picked up a yellow as Newcastle re-captured the top position in the English Championship beating down Nottingham Forest and Eric Lichaj (90 + Assist). Earlier in the week, and following Newcastle's 0 -1 home loss, Brighton took the lead away with a 3 - 0 win over QPR. Today Newcastle got back on track - although this could be short-lived, as Newcastle lead by 2 points, and Brighton have to play 1 more game.

Gboly Ariyibi only went 57 minutes today as Chesterfield lose on the road to Port Vale in England's League One. only 3 points separate the bottom 5 teams in the league

Perry Kitchen (90) Bjorn Johnsen (90 +yellow) and Hearts had a rare home loss, 0 - 1, to Aberdeen as the visitors scored the only goal, and extend their 3rd place position over Hearts to 6 points. Hearts who were in 2nd not that long ago have a 1W/2D/2L record for the last 5 matches, which will not get you into Europe play next season....time to sharpen up guys!

Tim Ream and Fulham traveled to face Danny Williams (yellow) and Reading in the English Championship - it was a struggle from the get-go, and at half time the officials abandoned the game due to bad weather. Both players did complete the first half.

SATURDAY

Falkirk and GK Danny Rogers (90) seem to have picked up a bad habit - scoring first and then losing. Today Falkirk only held the lead for about 2 minutes in the first half, then lost it late in the second. That's 2L/2D and 1 win in the last 5 as they are rapidly losing position in the Scottish Championship

GK Brad Guzan, an unused sub, as Middlesbrough traveled to Manchester United and lost a heart-breaker 2 - 1 after 2 goals in as many minutes, late in the game, 85' & 86'. Rumors have had Brad leaving in the January window...remember his contract is through 2018 - so no free's here. MLS will have to pay

Solid middle of the table clash in England's Championship between Barnsley and Birmingham with Jonathan Spector (90) ended in a 2 - 2 draw. Both teams on 35 points, but realistically neither team will reach promotional play-off spot this season

in England's League One, Duane Holmes was an unused sub for Scunthorpe as they visited Bolton and lost 2 - 1 on a 90 minute + goal. The period of poor form has really hurt Scunthorpe who have fallen to 3rd and out of the automatic promotion spot. The promise (earlier this season) of a runaway league championship has completely disappeared

SUNDAY

Cameron Carter-Vickers was an unused sub as Tottenham traveled to Watford and dispensed with them easily 1 - 4. Tottenham has moved into 4th place in England's Premiere League

GK Brendan Moore (90) was between the sticks in an 10 goal thriller as visitors Torquay and home team Forest Green settle for a 5 - 5 draw in England's National League

Kris Scott was an unused sub as Nuneaton won 1 - 0 over Tamworth in England's National League (North) That's 4 wins in a row for Nuneaton

Jon-Paul Pittman went 90, as Harrogate rescued a point at Stockport on a 89 minute OG (GK completely missed a back pass) I am sure that Harrogate will be happy with a point and the end of a 2 game skid in England's National League (North)

MONDAY

GK Brad Guzan get the start and the shut-out as Middlesbrough and Leicester end the game goalless in the English Premier League

Jonathan Spector went 90 for Birmingham, as they welcomed visitors Brentford to St Andrews. Birmingham had the lead going into the 2nd half, but fell 1 - 3 in their England Championship match (3 loses 1 draw in their last 5, since Zola took over as manager)

DeAndre Yedlin was an unused sub as Newcastle visited Blackburn and fell 1 - 0. I am sure that Newcastle's 2 losses in 3 games has Rafa wondering what's gone wrong.

Danny Williams (90) and Reading left it late as they traveled to Bristol City and came away with all 3 points in a 2 - 3 win in the English Championship. Reading sit in 3rd place with a game in hand

Tim Ream went 90 for Fulham and saw their lead disappear in 2 minutes as Brighton score 74' & 75' goals - Fulham never recovered and started the year with a 1 - 2 loss

Eric Lichaj (90) captained Nottingham Forest in today's contest with Barnsley, but he could not martial his team to a win as Forest fall 0 - 1 (Nottingham now with 4 straight losses)

GK Paul Rachubka was on the bench for Bury as they fell 1 - 3 at home to league leaders Sheffield Utd, in England League 1

Gboly Ariyibi joined the game in the 66th minute for Chesterfield, but with minimal impact, as Chesterfield and MK Dons end this one scoreless in England League 1

Duane Holmes, started and went 68' as Scunthorpe could only manage a 1 - 1 draw with Peterborough, as Scunthorpe's bad patch continues in League One

Kevin Dzierzawski got a couple of minutes at the end of the game for Peterhead as they traveled to Brechin and won 0 - 1, breaking their losing streak and helping themselves out of the relegation zone

WEEKEND WRAP: Amazing Friday, Saturday, Sunday - Features (13) Goals, (6) Shut Outs, (6) Assists

An amazing 3 days of soccer by our lads in Europe and around. 13 Goals (at last count) 6 Assists and 6 Shut Outs. The big news, I guess is Bobby Wood's goal, his 2nd in 2 games, and of course the Iceman Aron Johannson back as a started for Bremen scored from a PK - I watched the game and he was truly ice-cold on the kick, finally DeAndre Yedlin got off the mark as well at Newcastle. Elsewhere our USYNTeamers were going great guns, Haji Wright scoring and Weston McKennie with an assist in a U19 game for Schalke, Romain Gall scored again in Sweden as well as Mukwelle Akeale getting a goal and an assist in Spain for the Villarreal C squad and Kyle Scott got an assist for Chelsea in EPL2. Daniel Schmidt continues to get shut outs for Yamaga in Japan, and Brendan Moore finally gets his first since joining Torquay full time. Finally we had 2 lesser known players who both scored twice for their teams and deserve a shout-out. Alassane Kane scored for Bayern Hoff in Germany and Kyrian Nwabueze scored his brace for Ararat in Armenia. OK to the list

KuPS with GK Craig Hill (in 18) defeated 2nd place visitors Mariehamn and Brian Span (87 ) 2 - 1 a result that moves KuPS up to 3rd and pings Mariehamn's attack on 1st place in the league. Mariehamn are 4 points out of 1st place and have a game in hand, as they make their charge.

Kyle Scott started for Chelsea U23, as they beat Tottenham U23 in England Premier League 2 - Kyle was extremely active and although not credited with an Assist his shot, that was parried by the Tottenham GK, went directly to a Chelsea player for a header and a goal

Julian Green was an unused sub, as Bayern visited Schalke and got a 0 - 2 result, keeping them perfect for the season, in Bundesliga

Danny Williams went 90, and Scored on an ET (94) PK to give Reading a 2 - 1 win over Ipswich in England's Championship. After a slow start Reading now has 7 points from their last 3 games and move into 3rd place in the Championship.

In Norway Tippeligaen, GK Alex Horwath was on the bench as Brann drew 0 - 0 with Viking - the result hurts Brann in an extremely contested league, where 2 points separate #2 Brann from #6 Sarpsborg - Brann cannot be dropping points at this stage especially at home

Eddy Prugh received a straight RED Card and Bodens fell 1 - 3 to Strombergs in Sweden's Division 2 (Norrland) Bodens has had an OK season, sitting in the #3 spot, but have lost 2 straight games and now have lost their captain, for at least the next game

In Sweden's Superettan, AFC and GK Josh Wicks (90), faced off with Assyriska FF and Paul Torres (90) and settled for a goalless draw. Of course until a few weeks back Paul Torres and Josh Wicks were team-mates at AFC.

Babajide Ogunbiyi went 90 as Hobro beat Nykobing 1 - 0 in Denmark's Division 1. Hobro have started the season well, and sit in 2nd(tied) 1 point off the league lead

In Bundesliga, Aron Johannsson, seemingly back in form following his long term injury, stamped his return in his 2nd game, with an ice cold PK Goal, the score putting Bremen in the lead going in at half-time. Unfortunately Bremen could not hold the lead and fell at home 1 - 2 to Augsburg. That's 2 games and 2 losses for Bremen

In Germany Regionaliiga (Sudwest) Bryan Gaul (90) and Matt Taylor (86) had a tough time of things at home against Trier in a game that ended 1 - 1

In Regionaliiga (Nordost) The battle of Leipzig ended with RB Leipzig and Terence Boyd (70 + Yellow) and Ken Gipson (44 + Yellow) winning 0 - 1 over Lokomotive Leipzig. Ken left the game in the 44th minute (?injury)

Aris Briggs Zustra came off the bench (71) as Osnabruck II beat HSC Hannover in Oberliga (Niedersachsen)

Matt Miazga was an unused sub today (he did play 45 minutes yesterday for the reserve squad) as Vitesse visited Ajax and lost 1 - 0 - Vitesse was somewhat hobbled in their attempted comeback after they had a red card and were reduced to 10 men

In Denmark Division 1, GK Michael Lansing was in the 18 as back-up goalkeeper for Vejle. His team lost 0 - 2 to Koge, maybe its time to change goalkeepers?

In Sweden's Superettan, league leaders Sirius and Patrick Hopkins (90) visited Syrianska and won 0 - 2. Sirius have extended their lead to 4 points.

In Iceland Division 2, Aegir with Daniel Kuczynski (90) and Jannik Eckenrode (12) almost pulled off the away win, despite being a man down, but ended giving up an ET goal in an game that came down to the wire at KF

Jordan Tyler went 90 as Hottur lost their home game 2 - 3 to Sindri in Iceland Division 2

Kyle Curinga (90) and Josue Soto (90) helped Jaro beat Haka 3 - 0 in Finland Ykkonen. Etchu Tabe (81) had a mad 5 minutes with 2 x Yellows/RED card for Haka. Jaro moved into 4th place within striking range of promotion

In Finland Ykkonen Isaac Kannah (90) and KTP lost to Ekenas 0 - 1 on a late goal. GK Tim Murray gets the Shut Out for Ekenas. KTP are in a spot of bother having lost 3 in a row, and are now in the relegation zone

In Sweden's Allsvenskan, Ostersunds and Andrew Stadler (5) won at home against Helsingborg and GK Matt Pyzdrowski (in 18/DNP) by a 2 - 0 scoreline, moving them to 6th place

In Norway Tippeligaen, Stabaek and Cole Grossman (90) found no relief, as they hosted runaway league leaders Rosenborg and fell 0 - 2. Stabaek have enough time to get out of the relegation zone - unfortunately today was #1 Rosenborg, next up #2 Odd - they have a relegation battle on their hands

In Iceland Division 2, an exciting goal-fest between Vestri and Matt Nigro (28) and Afturelding. It looked like it would be a low scoring affair with a 0 - 0 half-time. But then it got wild with 6 goals in the 2nd half and a 3 - 3 final score, as the the teams traded goals for the last 40 minutes.

In Cyprus First Division, Louis Bennett II was in the 18 again today - he didn't make the field, but its good to see him in the mix. Anorthosis won this game at Aris 1 - 2 starting the season with 4 points from a possible 6

Josh Gatt came off the bench at 67 minute mark, for Molde in their goalless draw with Haugesund in Norway Tippeligaen - Molde are 1 point out of a Europa League spot.

Dion Acoff (84) helped last placed Throttur beat Akranes in Iceland's Pepsideild 3 - 1, which is their  first win in 12 attempts, its still very unlikely that they will avoid relegation

WEEKEND WRAP: Sunday 8/7/2016 Features Goals, Shut Outs and Some Tough Loses

In comparison to yesterday, its been a fine day for US Players across the pond. 4 Goalkeepers had shut outs, in Japan, Sweden and Germany, with a special shout out to Scott Angevine who has yet another shut out notched on his belt, in Finland. We had two multi-goal games, in Sweden's Superettan, where Tristan Bowen found the net twice (and Josh Wicks got a shut out) in a 5 - 0 victory, and in Sweden Division 2, where Sasa Plavsic led a storming come-back in a 7 - 3 win. Jann George opened his account in Germany, and Isaac Kannah continue his scoring ways. We also had a double Assist game when Brian Span had the assist on Mariehamn's 2 goals, and finally young Brendan Hines-Ike got the start in Sweden.  So a lot to be happy about today.

To the list;

GK Daniel Schmidt and Yamaga were held to a goalless draw by Mito in Japan's J League 2. Yamaga has to watch out, 2 draws in 2 weeks has slipped them 7 points adrift of first place Sapporo, with several teams catching them up. Officially, Daniel gets a Shut Out

In Switzerland Super League, Vaduz and Caleb Stanko visited Lugano and came away with all 3 points in a 0 - 2 win, there first win of the young season. Caleb went the 90 today

In Germany 3Liga, Marc Heider (90) started and Robbie Kristo (19) came off the bench as Osnabruck could only manage a 1 - 1 draw at home to Duisburg

Also in 3Liga, Sonnenhof (GK David Yelldell did not dress today) hosted Regensburg and Jann George (90) in an exciting game that saw 7 goals and 2 red cards, as Regensburg came back from 2 goals down to win 3 - 4. Jann Scored his first league goal of the season, that tied the game at 3 apiece

AFC United needed a win to keep pace with Sirius at the top of Superettan and our two US players provided, Tristan Bowen Scored twice (AFC's 1st and 2nd) ans GK Josh Wicks got the Shut Out as AFC thumped Varnamo 5 - 0

Royal-Dominique Fennell (in 18/DNP) just watched as Wurzburger Kickers lost at Braunschweig 2 - 1 in their opener in 2Liga

In Norway Tippeligaen, Cole Grossman (90) and Stabaek had shown some life recently after a disastrous start to the season, today they slipped back as they lost their home game to Haugesund 0 - 1. The loss denied them the chance to elevate themselves from the relegation zone.

In Sweden's Allsvenskan, Brendon Hines-Ike (90 + Yellow) got the nod with the starting 11 as Orebro visited #2 Norrkoping and fell 3 - 1

GK Adam Benn (90) gets the Shut Out as Niendorf 1 draw 0 - 0 with Rugenbergen in Oberliga (Hamburg)

Julian Ceesay (90) and Amberg visit DJK Bamberg and get a point in a goalless draw in Oberliga (Bayern Nord)

Omar Castro went 90 minutes in Braunschweig II 3 - 2 loss at Luneburger Hansa in Regionalliga (Nord)

Finland had a full schedule today with some shocking scores across the leagues

In Veikkausliiga, League leaders Mariehamn started Brian Span (61) and he rewarded his choice with 2 first half Assists. But the normally powerhouse at home Mariehamn gave up 3 2nd half goals and lost their game with cellar dwellers HIFK 2 - 5. Mariehamn still hold top spot, but now shared with HJK (@ 30 points each)

RoPS and Will John (25) had little problem with VPS as they won 2 - 0 and move into 3rd place in the league (with a game in hand over the 2 teams above them)

In Ykkonen, Jaro with Kyle Curinga (90) and Josue Soto (90) provided Ekenas GK Tim Murray with a day to forget as Jaro dismantled Ekenas 5 - 0. Jaro are still in the relegation zone, but with 1 win and 2 draws in the last 3 games are creeping to safety, and are probably feeling pretty good about their chances for survival.

Gabriel Wirtz went the full 90 in Jazz Pori's 3 - 2 win over GrIFK in a game that saw 3 changes in leads (Daniel Stevens did not dress today for GrIFK) Incidentally Jazz are bottom of the league, so with Jaro the 2 bottom teams won today

Also in Ykkonen, KTP and Isaac Kannah (90) played an amazing game against KPV and Mike Banner (90 + Yellow) with Isaac Kannah Scoring KTP's 2nd goal, they took a 4 - 0 lead, that was whittled down by KPV to 4 - 3 before KTP found the net for a 5th and put the game away 5 - 3

In Kakkonen (Group C) GK Scott Angevine (90) kept the score sheet blank with a Shut Out as YPA visited VIFK and the attack dis the rest with a 0 - 1 win. YPA who had a disastrous start to the season has now won 7 of their last 8, are well entrenched in mid-table, who knows what would be if they had started the season better

Jossimer Sanchez went 90 for Narpes Kraft, as they visited AC Kajaani, also in Group C, and were well beaten 4 - 0, the trip back home will probably be in silence. Narpes has now lost 3 of their last 4 games.

Charlie Butte (90) was on the losing side today as Burgbrohl lost 3 - 0 at Neunkirchen in Oberliga (Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar)

In Israel B.Jerusalem and Adam Sparstein were on the wrong side of a 2 - 4 scoreline. H. Beer Sheva came from behind twice, before pulling away in this Toto Cup game. B Jerusalem are out.
