WEEKLY WRAP: 10.16 thru 10.22.2017: 14 Goals / 2 Clean Sheets in an Average Week of Action

Just a quick overview this week....I need some time off!!!
An average week for our guys, but some things that I think stand out. Andrija Novakovich is killing it in the Netherlands, if he continues he will be 'hunted' by bigger clubs and it will be interesting to see if he can perform at the next level (there is no doubt that he is doing an excellent job at Telstar). Good to see McKinzie Gaines back in his squad, he played twice this week. Kind of sliding below the radar, Conor O'Brien is on a team (Start) that could get promoted to Norway's top tier, lets hope he stays through the off-season. Jonathan Klinsmann got a break, because of injuries at Hertha, and found himself on the bench in the Europa League. Finally, I said it last week and I'll say it again "when did Slovenia become a hot-bed of US goal-scorers! 2 goals from our 2 players Kyrian Nwabueze and Theo Wilson in Slovenia" and hey! deja vu! 3 goals from the same 2 this week

OK to the lists, first the short version......

Brian Span - Finland
Andrija Novakovich - Netherlands
Nick Taitague - Germany
Josue Soto - Finland
Felix De Bona (2) - Finland

WEEKLY WRAP: 10.9 thru 10.15.2017: Bad Week/Good News

It has not been a good week for American soccer - but its not all bad. The USMNT performance really provided a downer that was hard to swallow, but then I track US Players well known and not and realized that the future is actually not that dire. Here's a taste. In England, young US/UK dual Kyle Scott (19) made the bench in an EPL game for the first time for Chelsea, In Spain, Shaq Moore (20) was in the 18 for La Liga side Levante, and in Netherlands, Andrija Novakovich (21) continues to shine. Emmanuel Sabbi (19) is playing in Denmark's Superliga and Joshua Perez (19) in Italy's Serie C, and of course already very well known Christian Pulisic (19).  These are just some of the young US Players that have had their names mentioned for the future, (there are so many out there younger and a little older, this is just a sampling)  but it gives an idea of the potential out there, and if the USSF handles things well, the dream of great things is attainable. So there is good news out there, keep your heads up - even in the rough time we are in.

Other news, goalkeeper Jeff Gal had another shut out (I've lost count for the season) and led his team BK Forward to a league title and promotion in Sweden. Jeff is not the only goalkeeper have a breakout year, Tim Murray in Finland was on the good end of the stick in a 0 - 10 laugher that keeps his team, Honka, in the hunt for promotion to Finland;s top tier.

A couple of players re-appeared GK Josh Wicks in Sweden, Aaron Schoenfeld in Israel have both been missing from their squads with no news as to why...Eric Lichaj finally made a start for Nott's Forest. Shawn Parker back from injury in Germany played for Augsburg II in the lower leagues.

And hey! when did Slovenia become a hot-bed of US goal-scorers! 2 goals from our 2 players Kyrian Nwabueze and Theo Wilson in Slovenia

OK! enough...to the lists, short one first as usual..........

GOALS
Andrija Novakovich - Netherlands

After a very up and down season Mariehamn are still in with a chance of Europa next season, currently sitting tied 4th (5th on GD) and their next match is against last place JJK, while Lahti, who shares 4th are playing runaway leaders HJK - could be an interesting end of season battle brewing here.

WEEKLY WRAP: 10.3 thru 10.8.2017: Slow Week - But Not Without Some Fun

Here we are, back in International Break mode. The 'wrap' looks more like a breakdown of lower leagues in Germany than a global view of US players. Still there are some good bits to the week, despite being a little short on matches. Probably the biggest performance of the week came from Andrija Novakovich who had 2 goals for Telstar in the Netherlands, for those counting that's 4 goals in the 8 league matches (Andrija also has a cup goal) since joining the Eerste Divisie side. Felix De Bona scored again to make his tally 12 goals in 24 matches for Ekenas. A fun 3 - 3 draw in Germany saw both Aron Johannsson (Bremen) and Devann Yao (Meppen) score in the same game and the much overlooked (by Bournemouth) Emerson Hyndman, now playing in the U23's, with an assist in their win.

Goalkeepers didn't have a stellar week. Jeff Gal and Forward won 6 - 1 and are guaranteed a shot at promotion how they do it is yet TBD, after an absolutely crazy weekend. #1 Forward and #2 Karlslunds both had huge wins (combined score of 22 - 1) which gives Karlslunds a very out-side chance of catching Forward...but really with 1 match left for both teams it would be miraculous if Karlslunds win the league. But it has the potential for a lot of fun next weekend. OK, lets just go to the lists.....

First the short list......

GK Jeff Gal (90) and BK Forward had no trouble at al dispatching Eskilstuna City 1 - 6 in Sweden's Division 2 (Norra Svealand) and keep a 3 point edge at the top over Karlslunds with just next weeks final game to go...big consequences to today's high scoring matches (see below) It will all be decided next Sunday (1 automatic promotion + 1 Play-off) If my math is correct, even a loss by Forward would not change the outcome, but with the size of Karlslunds win today :) everything is possible
