WEEKLY WRAP: 8.28 thru 9.3.2017: Young Americans Making a Name For Themselves in Europe and Scandinavia

Not a complaint, just an observation...just as things get going in the world's leagues - bomp! they stop for international competition....so when (if ) you are reading below you will notice the lack of those 'named' players.......The upside is that you can glory in the young players that are trying to make their way into the higher leagues (and pay) . From a personal perspective, back in the 70's I was introduced to American Football, and one of the things that was immediately obvious was that the college kids were playing for the fun of competitive sport and not cash (NFL) which in turn made the college games a whole lot more fun to watch than the pro's, maybe that's just me ? as a person not exposed to the sport.

OK now this weeks highlights. Starting with the keepers who stop the scoring. Brendan Moore is a young man trying to make his way in England, this week he had his 2nd consecutive shut out and stopped a PK. Jeff Gal, who I have written about a few times before, had his 2nd consecutive shut-out and is now in double figures for shut-outs this season in Sweden. Tyler Back, who had a terrible time last season, with a team that lacked any noticeable defense, played his debut game in Sweden and got a shut out to begin his new club career, and finally, much touted youngster Brady Scott represented his first team, Koln, in Germany and kept a clean sheet for his team. Of note Craig Hill debuted in Finland after an extended period with out a team and Paul Blanchette continued to help his team win again in their promotion push.

Goals came a little more sparingly this week, but of note Gregory Conrad, who changed teams in Iceland a month back has now had two consecutive 2 goal matches. Shaq Moore did something rare for an American, he scored in Spain. Duane Holmes has become English club Scunthorpe's super-sub scoring last week and this off the bench and two of the more recognizable names Jerome Kiesewetter and Terrence Boyd both had multi goal performances in friendlies in Germany. Also of note, Lawrence Smith, who is a defender, just can't stop scoring..he did again this week.

Besides Craig Hill, a number of players debuted for their teams this week. Brandon Curriston in Sweden Kyle Varley, who was bumped up from Red Star Zurich junior team to the senior squad, Dallas Aminzadeh started a league lower in Germany, but he hasn't given up, Joshua Perez in Italy with Livorno made his debut today and Conor O'Brien, who is pretty well known already, begin his season at IK Start in Norway.

OK enough of the notables...lets get to the details
