WEEKEND WRAP: Friday, Saturday & Sunday - Germany's 2Liga, 3Liga Restart

So, this week see's the start of 2Liga & 3Liga in Germany, with some of the winter transfer movers getting their first taste of competition for their new teams, which overall have been pretty successful. If you look at the list you will see Emerson Hyndman, Julian Green, Joe Gyau, Mario Rodriguez all performing well.

My apologies for such a short intro - I am on my way to a demonstration in Washington DC - I hope you understand and also GO USA!!

Here's the short list

GOAL
Emerson Hyndman - Scotland
Mario Rodriguez - Germany

ASSIST
Andrew Wooten - Germany

SHUT OUT
Kenneth Kronholm - Germany

and the full listing below.............

FRIDAY

Jerome Kiesewetter and GK Justin vom Steeg (his first listing in the 18) were both unused subs for Dusseldorf as they hosted Andrew Wooten (90) and Sandhausen in the restart of Germany 2Liga. Andrew got off to a good start with an Assist on the games first goal after 14 minutes. Sandhausen went on to win this one 0 - 3.

Russell Canouse had to be content to sit this one out, on the bench as Bochum took the early lead, but failed to hold on....losing 2 - 1 to Union Berlin in 2Liga

A late OG (90) by Maastricht saved a point for NAC Breda and Shane O'Neill (90) in Eerste Divisie in Netherlands and moved Breda into 6th place and only 5 points out of 2nd.

Frankfurt will be happy with their 0 - 1 away win at Schalke in Bundesliga. Timothy Chandler went 90 and had a pretty good game. Frankfurt are now in 3rd place (CCL group stage), but there is quite a lot of season left, before you get over-excited (note: between 3rd and 6th only 2 points)

SATURDAY

Emerson Hyndman had his first start, went 90 and Scored for Rangers as they traveled to Motherwell and won 0 - 2 in the Scottish Premier League. Emerson seems to like playing for Rangers - with an assist (Cup) and a goal in his first 2 appearances

In Germany 3Liga, Sean Barry went 90, picked up a yellow card as FSV Frankfurt hosted Kiel and GK Kenneth Kronholm in a match that ended scoreless. Kenneth gets the Shut-Out

Hallescher and Royal Fennell (90) won their season restart 1 - 0 over Erfurt in Germany's 3Liga. Hallescher are now tied for 3rd (promotional play-off)

Marc Heider (90 +yellow) Robbie Kristo (in 18/DNP) and Osnabruck had an easy time as they hosted Munster in 3Liga, and won 3 - 0. Osnabruck. now in 2nd place 3 points out of first.

Jann George went 80 for Regensberg as they traveled to Rostock in 3Liga and played to a goalless draw. Regensberg will be happy to get a point and jump 1 point ahead of Rostock

Well represented by US Players, Sonnenhof fielded Mario Rodriguez (72) who Scored the first goal (against his last team/loan) Joe Gyau, who came off the bench at minute 72, and GK David Yelldell who watched this one from the bench as they drew 2 - 2 with Chemnitzer in 3Liga. Note: Mario scored in a friendly last week - so 3 appearances 2 goals - not bad!

Devante Parker only lasted the first half, as Mainz II visited Zwickau in a match of the bottom 2 clubs in 3Liga, losing 1 - 0. In fairness to Devante, Mainz II went down to 10 men at the very end of the 1st half and the coach made 2 changes to open the 2nd, so more llikely a strategic move. Things do look dire for Mainz II

Not a good start for Terence Boyd as he went 74 and picked up a yellow as Darmstadt got thumped at home 1 - 6 by FC Koln in Bundesliga. Unless Darmstadt find some answer's and quickly, it looks like they are heading to 2Liga.

Alfredo Morales (90) and Ingolstadt had little difficult handling Bobby Wood and Hamburg in their Bundesliga clash, with Ingolstadt coming out on top 3 - 1. Both teams are floundering at the bottom of the table, so a win helped Ingolstadt.

In England's Championship, Reading and Danny Williams (90) had a battle on their hands as they won 2 - 1 over Cardiff. Reading record of 3 wins in the last 5 games has them sitting in 3rd place.

Duane Holmes went 78 minutes as Scunthorpe had to battle to a 3 - 2 win over Port Vale in England League One. Scunthorpe are at the top of the table, after winning 3 straight, and look pretty good for promotion (at this point)

GK Brendan Moore (90) and Torquay stopped their skid at 3 games as they hosted Gateshead and won 3 - 1 in England's National League

DeAndre Yedlin was an unused sub today as Newcastle were kicked out of the FA Cup 3 - 0 by League One Oxford - not a result that I expected, but then its the FA Cup

Tottenham and Cameron Carter-Vickers (90) found themselves trailing League Two Wycombe 0 - 2 at White Hart Lane at the half, in what would have been the shock of the day (maybe the year) Coach Pochettino brought on Dembele and Alli in the 61st minute, and Tottenham scored 4 goals to scrape through this one 4 - 3 on a very late 90+7 goal

In Scotland's Championship, GK Danny Rogers (90) and Falkirk traveled to St Mirren and won 1 - 2. The win adds to their point total at 4th place and raises their hopes of a promotional playoff spot.

Kevin Dzierzawski (in 18/DNP) and Peterhead welcomed Queens Park in Scotland League One. Peterhead had no trouble dispatching the visitors 4 - 0. Peterhead who had a horrible first half of the season, have now won 3 of their last 5 and are 4 points clear of the drop.

Fabian Johnson got just a few minutes in as M'Gladbach have an exceptional game, coming from 2 - 0 to win 2 - 3 against Leverkusen in Bundesliga. M'Gladbach's 3 goals doubles their tally of away goals (they only had 3 away goals this season)

GK Benjamin Machini (in18/DNP) in Barakaldo's 1 - 0 win over Athletic Bilbao B in Spain's Segunda Division B (Group 2)

Ethan Dent started for Hawkes Bay in New Zealand Premier League and helped his team to a 3 - 2 win over last place Tasman United

Matt Wiesenfarth started for Canterbury in New Zealand's Premier League as they visited and beat Wellington Phoenix U20 1 - 4

SUNDAY

Shaq Moore went 63 in Levante UD B' 0 - 1 defeat at home to L'Hospitalet in Spain's Segunda Division B (Group 3)

Desevio Payne was an unused sub as Groningen visited Heerenveen in an Eredivisie match up that ended scoreless

Tim Ream went 90 for Fulham as they faced off with Hull at Craven Cottage in the FA Cup and came away with a 4 - 1 win and a trip to the next round

Shawn Parker was an unused sub as Nurnberg hosted Dresden, losing this on 1 - 2 - seems the winter break reversed their fortune

Julian Green started and played the first half, as Stuttgart traveled to St Pauli in Germany's 2Liga winning 0 - 1. Stuttgart are now shared #1 in the league after Braunschweig's draw on Saturday

League leaders Celtic absolutely dominated Hearts and Perry Kitchen (81) Bjorn Johnsen (90) thumping the 4th place Hearts 4 - 0 in Scotland's Premier League

GK Ethan Horvath is still on the bench with his new team Club Brugge - Brugge visited Gent in Belgium's top tier Jupiler League and lost 2 - 0, but maintained their top spot in the league, with 2nd place Anderlecht closing fast

In Netherlands Eredivisie, Matt Miazga came off the bench at 78th minute for Vitesse as they held on against Alkmaar. Both teams are battling for a top 7 finish and a chance for a spot in the Europa next season (Teams 4 thru 7 are in a play-off for the 2nd representative for Netherlands in the Europa League - 3rd spot is automatic)

In Germany's Bundesliga, John Brooks (90) and Hertha traveled to Freiburg, losing 2 - 1. The skid continues for Hertha who have lost 4 of the last 5 and slipped to 6th in the league

Dortmund will be disappointed at giving up a late goal to draw 1 - 1 with Mainz in Bundesliga. Christian Pulisic only got 5 minutes today, not long enough to make a difference. Dortmund, in 4th, wasted opportunity to go 3rd.

WEEKEND WRAP: Friday/Saturday/Sunday - Features Hyndman, Yedlin and the Return of Bundesliga

An interesting weekend..........
Living in downtown Washington DC, this weekend has been monumental, and distracting for our soccer tracking - but we made up the time given to yesterday's marching and (hopefully) have covered all the appearances by our guy's around the world. Of note this week, Germany's Bundesliga is off its Winter break, look out for the other German (and other countries) leagues to return over the next few weeks.

So first, we had some of our players that recently moved showing up on the gameday 18, Ethan Horvath at Club Brugge was on the bench. Emerson Hyndman played the final 15 minutes for Rangers in Scotland (assisted on winner), and young Sebastian Turenne Des Pres, made the 18 for Blackpool in England's League 2. (He has been in the 18 for 3 of the last 4 Blackpool games)

So Emerson Hyndman's assist for Rangers was not the only help Americans gave to their teams, DeAndre Yedlin had (in what many are saying is his best game) 2 assists for Newcastle in England, who look bound for the Premier League

FRIDAY

Shane O'Neill went 90 in NAC Breda's 2 - 0 win over Achilles 29 in Netherlands Eerste Divisie. 3rd straight win for Breda (4 of 5), puts them in 5th place.

Rubio Rubin went 90 as Jong Utrecht were blown out 0 - 3 by Dordrect in Netherlands Eerste Divisie, 2nd straight loss and sitting 1 off bottom spot

SATURDAY

Tim Ream went 90 for Fulham as they traveled to QPR in the English Championship, and came away with a point in a 1 - 1 draw. Fulham are hovering around in the top 10 and will need to win a few to get into the top 6 and have a chance of promotion

Emerson Hyndman came off the bench for the final 15 minutes as Rangers had a bit of a scare at home to Motherwell in the Scottish FA Cup. Down 0 - 1 when Emerson came on he is credited with the assist on their 89th minute winning goal, in a 2 - 1 win. Nice to see Emerson make his mark already

Dortmund traveled to Bremen as the Bundesliga returned from winter break. Bremen were without Aron Johannsson (calf injury) as Christian Pulisic go the start and played the whole game which Dortmund won 1 - 2

Alfredo Morales went 90 as Ingolstadt visited Schalke and fell 1 - 0 on a 90+ minute goal - Ingolstadt are in the relegation zone, and 4 points from safety

Like Ingolstadt, Hamburg and Bobby Wood (90) looked good for an away point as they traveled to Wolfsburg, but a late goal by Mario Gomez put paid to that - Wolfsburg 1 - 0 Hamburg

A 1 - 3 loss by Middlesbrough at home to West Ham means just 2 points in the last 5 games and a step closer to the relegation zone. Incidentally, Brad Guzan, who was on the bench today, was in goal for both scoreless draws that gave Middlesbrough those points

In the English Championship, Danny Williams (90) and Reading fell 3 - 2 at Derby. Reading stay in 5th place despite the loss, but the teams in the promotional play-off spots are only separated by 4 points - very tight - and dropped points can end up being costly at this stage

Talking of the top of the English Championship, DeAndre Yedlin (80) had a great day for Newcastle, credited with 2 Assists (on the first 2 goals) as Newcastle romped over Rotherham 4 - 0, maintaining their league leadership.

After a run of bad form, Nottingham and Eric Lichaj (90) were in need of a win to stay out of a end-season relegation fight. Forest got a goal in the 67th minute and held on for the win over Bristol City giving them a 5 point cushion above the drop zone

In England League One, Gboly Ariyibi (90) and Chesterfield could only manage a scoreless draw at home to Wimbledon. They remain in trouble of relegation, but its tight at the bottom of League One (Chesterfield at 22nd with 26 points are only 5 points behind 16th place MK Dons), and a win would take them clear

Sebastian Turenne Des Pres made the bench again for Blackpool as they drew 2 - 2 with Yeovil in England's League Two. Sebastian has now been in the 18 for Blackpool for 3 of the last 4 games - its only a matter of time.

In the English National League, GK Brendon Moore (90) and Torquay traveled to Maidstone, and for the first half looked in good shape. But the 2nd half was a different story as they fall 2 - 1. That's 3 straight losses for Torquay

In Scotland's FA Cup GK Danny Rogers and Falkirk were knocked-out by fellow Scottish Championship side Morton 2 - 0, in a game pitting #3 and #4 to progress in the competition

Some reports had Cameron Carter-Vickers as a shoo-in for Tottenham with injury to Vertonghen, didn't happen - Coach Pochettino kept Cameron on the bench as they traveled to Manchester City and came back from 2 goals down to snag a point and stay in 3rd place in the English Premier League

Timothy Chandler (90) and Frankfurt found themselves on the wrong end of a 3 - 0 score as they traveled to this seasons surprise Bundesliga team RB Leipzig. Frankfurt on 29 points still has a chance of reaching the qualification stage of the Europa league, or better.

In what I was hoping would be a game highlighting 2 young American's, Desevio Payne, after a good game last week, did not get off the bench for Groningen as they hosted Matt Miazga (45) and Vitesse in an Eredivisie battle in the Netherlands. The game ended in a 1 - 1 draw which helped Vitesse more than Groningen (who are slipping out of post season contention)

In New Zealand, Ethan Dent came off the bench for Hawkes Bay as they traveled to Wellington and played to an exciting 3 - 3 draw. Hawkes Bay, who have had an inconsistent season, are now just 3 points off a post season play-off spot

In New Zealand's Premier League, Matt Wiesenfarth started for Canterbury as they made an ET (90+6) comeback against Auckland in a 2 - 2 draw. Canterbury are tied with Hawkes Bay on 17 points

SUNDAY

Barakaldo had GK Benjamin Machini on the bench today as they traveled to Zamudio in Spain's Segunda Division B (Group 2) and fall 1 - 0

Shaq Moore (90) as Levante UD B visited Mallorca B and grabbed a point in a 0 - 0 draw. That's 4 draws in the last 5 as they struggle to stay in the league.

In the Scottish FA Cup, Perry Kitchen (90) and Bjorn Johnsen (90 - subbed in ET) will have to replay their game, with Championship side, Raith Rovers after a 1 - 1 draw at Raith

GK Ethan Horvath was on the bench for Club Brugge in Belgium's Jupiler League as they traveled to, and thumped Standard Liege 0 - 3 maintaining their lead at the top of Belgium's top tier. Good to see Ethan make the 18

John Brooks went 90 for Hertha, in a 3 - 1 loss at Leverkusen in Bundesliga. Hertha are in 5th place (equal points with Dortmund) but are slipping a little after 3 loses in the last 5 games

WEEKEND WRAP: Friday/Saturday/Sunday: Another Quiet Weekend Features Some Firsts

Well another weekend in the books. Still fairly light on number of games, but our guy's are  out there plugging away for their teams. A few of the players that have been involved ith moves this winter had their shot for the first time...GK Ethan Horvath got 20 minutes for current Belgium league leaders Club Brugge in a friendly, Emerson Hyndman was involved in the 2nd half of a friendly with his new team Scottish giants Rangers, Mario Rodriguez scored in his first game for Sonnenhof in Germany and last, but not least, after nearly a year out for injury, Desevio Payne played his first game, went the full 90 minutes and scored his first professional goal, for Groningen in the Netherlands...not a bad bunch of firsts!

Here is the full list as usual

GOAL
Mario Rodriguez - Germany (Friendly)
Desevio Payne - Netherlands
John Brooks - Germany (PK / Friendly)

The complete list follows;

FRIDAY

GK Quentin Westberg was an unused sub in Tours 2 - 3 loss to Lens, in France's Ligue 2.

In Friendly play, John Brooks, back from injury goes 90 for Hertha and Scores a deciding PK to give Hertha the win over Spanish 4th division side Poblense

GK Ethan Horvath got 20 minutes with his new team, Club Brugge, in a Friendly against Germany's Freiburg. The Belgium League leaders, Club Brugge, won this one 3 - 1

SATURDAY

In Germany's Telekom Cup Dusseldorf lost 0 - 1 on PK's to Bayern in the semi-finals. Both Jerome Kiesewetter and GK Justin vom Steeg were unused subs in this match. Telekom Cup is one of those weird 1 day events were teams will play twice in one day - 45 minute games. Here Dusseldorf will play later in the day in the 3rd place game and Bayern will play in the final.

In England's Premier League, after 2 good performances for Middlesbrough,GK Brad Guzan was seated in place of Victor Valdez in this game that ended scoreless at Watford

In England's Championship Jonathan Spector (90) and Birmingham were held to a 0 - 0 draw by Eric Lichaj (90) and Nottingham. Both teams are on a run of bad results, so this didn't help either side

DeAndre Yedlin went 90 for Newcastle as they visited Brentford and won 1 - 2 to retake top spot in England's Championship

Tim Ream went 90 for Fulham, as they hosted Barnsley in their Championship match. Fulham won this on 2 - 0 which moves them up to 8th place.

In England's League One, Gboly Ariyibi came off the bench at the 68th minute as Chesterfield managed  only their first win since December 17, in a 1 - 0 victory over Coventry. They are still in the relegation zone but a little closer to safety

Also in League One play, Duane Holmes went 85 minutes and picked up a yellow card, as Scunthorpe traveled to Northampton and won 1 - 2. The victory gives Scunthorpe a little breathing room above #3 Bolton, and they trail leaders Sheffield United by just one point.

In England's National League GK Brendan Moore (90) gave up 2 first half goals as Torquay fell 1 - 2 to Woking, their 2nd straight loss

Harrogate had a mixed day today in the National League (North) winning the game 1 - 0 but losing 2 players to red cards, including Jon-Paul Pittman's (45) first half straight red. Harrogate are firmly in mid-table and the loss of 2 starters will probably not have an enormous effect on there season

In Scotland, GK Danny Rogers and Falkirk were held to a 1 - 1 score by Ayr in the Championship. Falkirk are firmly in 4th place, with a good opportunity at a promotional play-off spot

In Scotland's League One, Kevin Dzierzawski came of the bench on the 65th minute as 10 man Peterhead traveled to Alloa and managed a 0 - 1 win. The win takes them 4 points clear of the drop.

In Spain, Shaq Moore went 90 as Levante UD B were held at home 0 - 0 by Lieda. Levante UD B now have 4 draws in their last 5, and are just 3 points from safety in Spain's Segunda Division B (Group 3) - but they really need to find a goal-scorer, they have only scored 10 goals in 21 games - whew!

In the other Telekom Cup semi-final in Germany, Fabian Johnson was an unused sub as M'Gladbach fell 0 - 1 to Mainz. M'Gladbach will play Dusseldorf in the 3rd place game, and Mainz will face Bayern in the final

and now we know who is in 3rd place - Dusseldorf beat M'Gladbach 2 - 0 in their third place play-off in Germany's Telekom Cup.GK Justin vom Steeg and Jerome Kiesewetter both remained on the bench for winners Dusseldorf while Fabian Johnson watched from the sideline for M'Gladbach

In a Friendly, Frankfurt and Timothy Chandler played Russia's Zenith St Petersburg in a game that ended scoreless

Bayern has won the Telekom Cup with a 2 - 1 win over Mainz

After nearly a year out, Desevio Payne played 90 minutes in his return, and Scored Groningen's 2nd goal (his first professional goal) - what a return for the 21 year old defender. Heracles 1 - 4 Groningen in Netherlands Eredivisie

Ethan Dent came off the bench for Hawkes Bay as they dismantled Eastern Suburbs 6 - 3 in New Zealand's Premier League

Matt Wiesenfarth came off the bench for Canterbury United in their 1 - 3 home loss to Southern United in New Zealand Premier League

SUNDAY

Matt Miazga got 5 minutes in as Vitesse hosted Twente in Netherlands Eredivisie and won 3 - 1 moving them to 7th place

In his first game for Sonnenhof, Mario Rodriguez scored the opener after 34 minutes in a Friendly against Hoffenheim. The rest of the match didn't go so well for the home team, as they fall 1 - 4, but a great start for Mario

Emerson Hyndman was on the bench for Rangers at the start of the match as they played a Friendly against Bundesliga #2 RB Leipzig - and the differences were glaring as Rangers fall 4 - 0. Emerson got his chance debuting and playing the 2nd half.

GK Benjamin Machini on the bench (he is the #2 backup GK) for Barakaldo CF in Spain's Segunda Division B (Group 2) as they handed a thumpin' on Socuellamos. Barakaldo were up 4 - 0 at the half.

Reduced to 10 men in the 2nd half, they held that score for the remaining time resulting in a move up to 10th spot (4 points out of a promotional play-off position)

WEEKEND WRAP: Friday, Saturday & Sunday - Features FA Cup 3rd Round & a Little Bit More

Its a new year, and as tradition dictates England gets busy with the FA Cup. Most of the minnow's have gone by the 3rd round and are replaced with new minnow's from 2nd,3rd & 4th divisions. The Premier League giants enter the competition and we get our newsworthy matches pitching them against lower league clubs with some surprising results. This year is no exception as in their first FA Cup appearances EPL clubs Everton, Stoke, Bournemouth, West Bromich and Swansea are all knocked out of FA Cup in 3rd round, with Liverpool, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Burnley drawing and set for replays. We had some American's playing in the FA Cup this weekend, notably Emerson Hyndman getting the start a Bournemouth, Brad Guzan getting his 2nd straight clean-sheet for Middlesbrough and Cameron Carter-Vickers starting for Tottenham.

We did see some goals and assists as well in the lower leagues, so here is the list (Like last week its pretty short).

GOAL
Andrija Novakovich - England
Christian Pulisic - Friendly
Aaron Schoenfeld - Israel

ASSIST
Andrija Novakovich - England
Jon-Paul Pittman (2) - England

SHUT OUT
Brad Guzan - England

And the full comprehensive list;

FRIDAY

Gedion Zelalem went 90 for Arsenal's U23 in their 2 - 1 victory over Derby U23 in England's Premier League 2 (Group 1)

Andrija Novakovich went 90, had an Assist on Reading U23's 2nd goal and Scored a PK (Reading U23's 4th goal) in their 4 - 2 win over Southampton U23 in England Premier League (Group 2)

SATURDAY

Danny Williams (90) and Reading were on the wrong side of a 4 - 0 drubbing by Manchester United at Old Trafford in the FA Cup 3rd Round

Jon-Paul Pittman goes 76 gets credit for 2 Assists as Harrogate starts the New Year with a 6 - 3 win over Alfreton in England's National League (North)

Gboly Ariyibi comes off the bench gives 27 minutes as Chelmsford fall 2 - 0 at Bradford. Chelmsford are now in relegation trouble, as they start the 2nd half of the season in England League One

Duane Holmes got a cameo (2) appearance for Scunthorpe in their 3 - 2 win over Bury in their League One match. Scunthorpe will be happy with the win, after 3 bad results, they are in 2nd adrift by 4 points

A 62nd minute goal by Boreham Wood gave the visitors a 0 - 1 win over GK Brendan Moore and Torquay in the English National League

Kris Scott was an unused sub as Nuneaton traveled to Darlington and got the win 1 - 2 in England's National League (North)

Russell Canouse (45) came on for the 2nd half in Bochum's 1-0 loss in a friendly vs FC Köln.

In FA Cup play, DeAndre Yedlin (90) for Newcastle as they traveled to Birmingham and Johnathan Spector, who played 44' in first half before being replaced (Injury?) and drew 1 - 1 - they will replay this one.

Christian Pulisic came on in the 2nd half (BVB changed their complete 11 at half-time). Christian had a good outing and scored for Dortmund as they faced off with PSV Eindhoven in a friendly. Dortmund won this one 4 - 1.

In FA Cup, Emerson Hyndman started and got 56 min in for Bournemouth, as they fall 3-0 to League One's Millwall, in one of the shocks of the competition. Note: this was Emerson's first start for Bournemouth

Geoff Cameron still missing from the line-up at Stoke (Injury) as they are beaten 0 - 2 by Championship side Wolves

Lyndon Gooch is also on the injured list for Sunderland as they drew 0 - 0 at home with Burnley

Eric Lichaj wore the captain's arm band and went 90 as Nottingham Forest fall 2-0 at Wigan, in the FA Cup 3rd Round. Eric had a PK saved in the 81st minute

In Scotland's Championship GK Danny Rogers and Falkirk traveled to Raith and won handily 1 - 4 and finally broke their period of bad form. Falkirk are in a good spot - 4th - in the league with a good chance of the promotional play-offs

Kevin Dzierzawski was an unused sub for Peterhead as they lost 2 - 3 at home to league leaders Livingston. Peterhead fell behind twice and fought back but the third time they ran out of steam

In New Zealand's Premier League, Ethan Dent came off the bench (73) for Hawkes Bay as they traveled to Waitakere, losing this one 1 - 0

Also in New Zealand, Matt Wiesenfarth came off the bench, as Canterbury visited Tasman and won 2 - 3 in the Premier League. Canterbury sit in 5th place, 3 points out of 1st (only 4 points separate the top 6 teams)

SUNDAY

Tim Ream (90) and Fulham traveled to Cardiff and came away with a 1 - 2 away win in England's FA Cup 3rd Round to move on to the nxt round

Shaq Moore went 90 for Levante UD in Spain's Segunda Division B (Group 3) as they visited Baleares and drew 1 - 1. A good result for Levante UD putting them at only 3 points from safety and relegation into obscurity

GK Brad Guzan got to play again today in Middlesbrough FA Cup 3rd round match against Sheffield Wednesday. The Premier League team had little problem, winning 3 - 0 with Brad getting the Shut-Out, his 2nd straight.

Antonee Robinson went 90 for Everton U23 in their Premier League 2 (Group 1) match at Sunderland U23. Everton won 0 - 1 and maintain their lead of the EPL2

Cameron Carter-Vickers started and went 90, helping Tottenham win 2 - 0 in the FA Cup 3rd round over Aston Villa.

In Israel's State Cup  H.Tel Aviv will enter the final 16 following a 1 - 0 win, on an Aaron Schoenfeld goal (the only goal) in a 1 - 0 win

Don't Forget to Check Out our Transfer Window Track - Its ongoing, updated, as moves develop.

January 2, 2017

WEEKEND WRAP: Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday - All England All The Time

Happy New Year to you all and Thank You for your continued support of our Blog.

Peculiar to English football, those 6 day following Christmas, see teams (some) playing 3 games in 6 days. It heralds the half-way point in the season, and for fans a fantastic holiday gift. I extended the list this weekend to include Monday. We did see an Assist from Eric Lichaj and a clean sheet from Brad Guzan, so not a wash for our boys in England.

The Transfer Window has opened in a handful of countries - you can see the list here - and we have fired up our running list of transfers involving Americans here

FRIDAY

DeAndre Yedlin went 90 and picked up a yellow as Newcastle re-captured the top position in the English Championship beating down Nottingham Forest and Eric Lichaj (90 + Assist). Earlier in the week, and following Newcastle's 0 -1 home loss, Brighton took the lead away with a 3 - 0 win over QPR. Today Newcastle got back on track - although this could be short-lived, as Newcastle lead by 2 points, and Brighton have to play 1 more game.

Gboly Ariyibi only went 57 minutes today as Chesterfield lose on the road to Port Vale in England's League One. only 3 points separate the bottom 5 teams in the league

Perry Kitchen (90) Bjorn Johnsen (90 +yellow) and Hearts had a rare home loss, 0 - 1, to Aberdeen as the visitors scored the only goal, and extend their 3rd place position over Hearts to 6 points. Hearts who were in 2nd not that long ago have a 1W/2D/2L record for the last 5 matches, which will not get you into Europe play next season....time to sharpen up guys!

Tim Ream and Fulham traveled to face Danny Williams (yellow) and Reading in the English Championship - it was a struggle from the get-go, and at half time the officials abandoned the game due to bad weather. Both players did complete the first half.

SATURDAY

Falkirk and GK Danny Rogers (90) seem to have picked up a bad habit - scoring first and then losing. Today Falkirk only held the lead for about 2 minutes in the first half, then lost it late in the second. That's 2L/2D and 1 win in the last 5 as they are rapidly losing position in the Scottish Championship

GK Brad Guzan, an unused sub, as Middlesbrough traveled to Manchester United and lost a heart-breaker 2 - 1 after 2 goals in as many minutes, late in the game, 85' & 86'. Rumors have had Brad leaving in the January window...remember his contract is through 2018 - so no free's here. MLS will have to pay

Solid middle of the table clash in England's Championship between Barnsley and Birmingham with Jonathan Spector (90) ended in a 2 - 2 draw. Both teams on 35 points, but realistically neither team will reach promotional play-off spot this season

in England's League One, Duane Holmes was an unused sub for Scunthorpe as they visited Bolton and lost 2 - 1 on a 90 minute + goal. The period of poor form has really hurt Scunthorpe who have fallen to 3rd and out of the automatic promotion spot. The promise (earlier this season) of a runaway league championship has completely disappeared

SUNDAY

Cameron Carter-Vickers was an unused sub as Tottenham traveled to Watford and dispensed with them easily 1 - 4. Tottenham has moved into 4th place in England's Premiere League

GK Brendan Moore (90) was between the sticks in an 10 goal thriller as visitors Torquay and home team Forest Green settle for a 5 - 5 draw in England's National League

Kris Scott was an unused sub as Nuneaton won 1 - 0 over Tamworth in England's National League (North) That's 4 wins in a row for Nuneaton

Jon-Paul Pittman went 90, as Harrogate rescued a point at Stockport on a 89 minute OG (GK completely missed a back pass) I am sure that Harrogate will be happy with a point and the end of a 2 game skid in England's National League (North)

MONDAY

GK Brad Guzan get the start and the shut-out as Middlesbrough and Leicester end the game goalless in the English Premier League

Jonathan Spector went 90 for Birmingham, as they welcomed visitors Brentford to St Andrews. Birmingham had the lead going into the 2nd half, but fell 1 - 3 in their England Championship match (3 loses 1 draw in their last 5, since Zola took over as manager)

DeAndre Yedlin was an unused sub as Newcastle visited Blackburn and fell 1 - 0. I am sure that Newcastle's 2 losses in 3 games has Rafa wondering what's gone wrong.

Danny Williams (90) and Reading left it late as they traveled to Bristol City and came away with all 3 points in a 2 - 3 win in the English Championship. Reading sit in 3rd place with a game in hand

Tim Ream went 90 for Fulham and saw their lead disappear in 2 minutes as Brighton score 74' & 75' goals - Fulham never recovered and started the year with a 1 - 2 loss

Eric Lichaj (90) captained Nottingham Forest in today's contest with Barnsley, but he could not martial his team to a win as Forest fall 0 - 1 (Nottingham now with 4 straight losses)

GK Paul Rachubka was on the bench for Bury as they fell 1 - 3 at home to league leaders Sheffield Utd, in England League 1

Gboly Ariyibi joined the game in the 66th minute for Chesterfield, but with minimal impact, as Chesterfield and MK Dons end this one scoreless in England League 1

Duane Holmes, started and went 68' as Scunthorpe could only manage a 1 - 1 draw with Peterborough, as Scunthorpe's bad patch continues in League One

Kevin Dzierzawski got a couple of minutes at the end of the game for Peterhead as they traveled to Brechin and won 0 - 1, breaking their losing streak and helping themselves out of the relegation zone

New Posts January 1

Orlando Florida's 24 year old striker, Christian Eissele, is out of contract with Kemi in Finland's Veikkausliiga. Christian who in past seasons has been a lock to scores goals in the teens - had a poor season by his standards with only 2 goals and an assist in 29 appearances. Christian returned to Kemi in July of 2015 after a brief, but successful period in Sweden with IK Brage, where he scored 15 goals in 39 games. My expectation is that Christian will be picked up , during this transfer window

GK Kris Devaux (25), is out of contract at Honefoss in Norway. As the junior GK on the squad he saw action in 4 NM-Cup games where he allowed 4 goals, and had 2 shut-outs. Kris had previously played with Baerum also in Norway

Jack McBean has returned to LA Galaxy after his stint at Coventry. Jack, who was loaned to the English League One team in August, played 6 times for Coventry scoring 1 goal

Eric Palmer-Brown's loan to FC Porto has also ended. No word from Sporting Kansas City on the 19 year old, Central Defender. Eric played 17 times for FC Porto B over 2 seasons (hopefully the teams will find a way for Eric to continue his growth as a player with FC Porto) The Kansas City Star has him back in Kansas

Unless things change it's expected GK Daniel Schmidt will returned to Vegalta Sendai after his very successful loan to Japan's J2 Yamaga. Hard to believe that Illinois native, Daniel is only 24 years old and has 43 games for Yamaga under his belt with an amazing 20 Shut-outs / and allowed only 35 goals - definitely a GK to watch for the future.

January 2

Junior Flores from Dortmund to MLS - reports are that he will consult with Dortmund on Jan 9 to formalize this move.

Etchu Tabe has signed with Ekenas in Finland Ykkönen (2nd tier)

January 3

As expected, USMNT GK Ethan Horvath has left Molde in Norway for Club Brugge in Belgium. Ethan joined Brugge as a junior (U19) from Colorado in 2013. Ethan stacked up a record of 56 games/19 shut-outs/and allowed 61 goals. Ethan represented the USA at U18, U20, U23 and USMNT levels. The Transfer Fee is reported as $1 million.

January 4

Josh Gatt, who contract expired at Molde in Sweden is on trial at Frankfurt in Germany (2Liga) - according to Frankfurt, its just that 'trial' we will follow Josh's progress to hitch up with another team

January 7

Reported in the Scottish Sun newspaper, Emerson Hyndman has signed a loan agreement with Rangers in Scotland's Premier League. Rangers are currently 2nd in the league and have a 'recent history' of loans of American's Gedion Zelalem from Arsenal was the last
(This is a newspaper report and as of writing neither Rangers, nor Bournemouth have released an official notification)

January 8

Confirmed! Emerson Hyndman on loan (6 months) to Rangers in Scottish Premier League.

January 9

Reports, primarily from ESPN, have Gedion Zelalem in late discussion with BVB Dortmund. Right now there is no official word - so this report sits somewhere between rumor and done deal. It would be an interesting move for Gedion, but I am not sure he will see more senior level playing time (maybe with Dortmund II) but he will get a better shake than at Arsenal, so I am all for this move. BTW obviously, Gedion would be joining Christian Pulisic at Dortmund.

Another young American, GK Wojciech Gajda has signed with Hearts in Scotland. The 18 year old New York native (he is a dual USA/Poland), was signed today from NYRB U18 squad and will play in Hearts sub 20. Hearts of course is home to USMNT Perry Kitchen, and Bjorn Johnsen, both who play for the senior squad.

Also announced today midfielder Sebastien Turenne Des Pres signed with English team Blackpool (joins their junior squad). The 18-year-old former Real Salt Lake Academy player has penned an initial 18-month contract.

January 14

Looks like Brooks Lennon will be loaned to Real Salt Lake for 2017. Not sure why Liverpool didn't loan him to an English lower league team? Hopefully he can shine at RSL and find his way back to the Kop next season. - Confirmed 2/6

Fafa Picault has been released by German side St Pauli. Its just 6 months or so since Fafa was brought in to the USMNT fold by Klinsmann - wow!

January 15

According to reports in the German & English press Terence Boyd is likely to sign a 2 year deal with Huddersfield Town in England's Championship. According to the articles, Terence will sign a 2 year deal, leaving German high-flyers, RB Leipzig. Although this rumor has been around for a bit, there does seem to be some fire under the smoke. Leipzig are well known for 'leaking' information as it suits them, and Huddersfield, who are coached by American David Wagner, would be a very good fit for Terence as he rehabs his ACL. We will have to wait and see on this one, Terence contract is up in the Summer, and Leipzig will probably want to make some money, rather than let him go on a free.

January 16

GK Ciaran Nugent has moved from Sligo Rovers to Galway in the Ireland Premier League. Confirmed by Galway
