WEEKEND WRAP: Friday/Saturday/Sunday: Another Quiet Weekend Features Some Firsts

Well another weekend in the books. Still fairly light on number of games, but our guy's are  out there plugging away for their teams. A few of the players that have been involved ith moves this winter had their shot for the first time...GK Ethan Horvath got 20 minutes for current Belgium league leaders Club Brugge in a friendly, Emerson Hyndman was involved in the 2nd half of a friendly with his new team Scottish giants Rangers, Mario Rodriguez scored in his first game for Sonnenhof in Germany and last, but not least, after nearly a year out for injury, Desevio Payne played his first game, went the full 90 minutes and scored his first professional goal, for Groningen in the Netherlands...not a bad bunch of firsts!

Here is the full list as usual

GOAL
Mario Rodriguez - Germany (Friendly)
Desevio Payne - Netherlands
John Brooks - Germany (PK / Friendly)

The complete list follows;

FRIDAY

GK Quentin Westberg was an unused sub in Tours 2 - 3 loss to Lens, in France's Ligue 2.

In Friendly play, John Brooks, back from injury goes 90 for Hertha and Scores a deciding PK to give Hertha the win over Spanish 4th division side Poblense

GK Ethan Horvath got 20 minutes with his new team, Club Brugge, in a Friendly against Germany's Freiburg. The Belgium League leaders, Club Brugge, won this one 3 - 1

SATURDAY

In Germany's Telekom Cup Dusseldorf lost 0 - 1 on PK's to Bayern in the semi-finals. Both Jerome Kiesewetter and GK Justin vom Steeg were unused subs in this match. Telekom Cup is one of those weird 1 day events were teams will play twice in one day - 45 minute games. Here Dusseldorf will play later in the day in the 3rd place game and Bayern will play in the final.

In England's Premier League, after 2 good performances for Middlesbrough,GK Brad Guzan was seated in place of Victor Valdez in this game that ended scoreless at Watford

In England's Championship Jonathan Spector (90) and Birmingham were held to a 0 - 0 draw by Eric Lichaj (90) and Nottingham. Both teams are on a run of bad results, so this didn't help either side

DeAndre Yedlin went 90 for Newcastle as they visited Brentford and won 1 - 2 to retake top spot in England's Championship

Tim Ream went 90 for Fulham, as they hosted Barnsley in their Championship match. Fulham won this on 2 - 0 which moves them up to 8th place.

In England's League One, Gboly Ariyibi came off the bench at the 68th minute as Chesterfield managed  only their first win since December 17, in a 1 - 0 victory over Coventry. They are still in the relegation zone but a little closer to safety

Also in League One play, Duane Holmes went 85 minutes and picked up a yellow card, as Scunthorpe traveled to Northampton and won 1 - 2. The victory gives Scunthorpe a little breathing room above #3 Bolton, and they trail leaders Sheffield United by just one point.

In England's National League GK Brendan Moore (90) gave up 2 first half goals as Torquay fell 1 - 2 to Woking, their 2nd straight loss

Harrogate had a mixed day today in the National League (North) winning the game 1 - 0 but losing 2 players to red cards, including Jon-Paul Pittman's (45) first half straight red. Harrogate are firmly in mid-table and the loss of 2 starters will probably not have an enormous effect on there season

In Scotland, GK Danny Rogers and Falkirk were held to a 1 - 1 score by Ayr in the Championship. Falkirk are firmly in 4th place, with a good opportunity at a promotional play-off spot

In Scotland's League One, Kevin Dzierzawski came of the bench on the 65th minute as 10 man Peterhead traveled to Alloa and managed a 0 - 1 win. The win takes them 4 points clear of the drop.

In Spain, Shaq Moore went 90 as Levante UD B were held at home 0 - 0 by Lieda. Levante UD B now have 4 draws in their last 5, and are just 3 points from safety in Spain's Segunda Division B (Group 3) - but they really need to find a goal-scorer, they have only scored 10 goals in 21 games - whew!

In the other Telekom Cup semi-final in Germany, Fabian Johnson was an unused sub as M'Gladbach fell 0 - 1 to Mainz. M'Gladbach will play Dusseldorf in the 3rd place game, and Mainz will face Bayern in the final

and now we know who is in 3rd place - Dusseldorf beat M'Gladbach 2 - 0 in their third place play-off in Germany's Telekom Cup.GK Justin vom Steeg and Jerome Kiesewetter both remained on the bench for winners Dusseldorf while Fabian Johnson watched from the sideline for M'Gladbach

In a Friendly, Frankfurt and Timothy Chandler played Russia's Zenith St Petersburg in a game that ended scoreless

Bayern has won the Telekom Cup with a 2 - 1 win over Mainz

After nearly a year out, Desevio Payne played 90 minutes in his return, and Scored Groningen's 2nd goal (his first professional goal) - what a return for the 21 year old defender. Heracles 1 - 4 Groningen in Netherlands Eredivisie

Ethan Dent came off the bench for Hawkes Bay as they dismantled Eastern Suburbs 6 - 3 in New Zealand's Premier League

Matt Wiesenfarth came off the bench for Canterbury United in their 1 - 3 home loss to Southern United in New Zealand Premier League

SUNDAY

Matt Miazga got 5 minutes in as Vitesse hosted Twente in Netherlands Eredivisie and won 3 - 1 moving them to 7th place

In his first game for Sonnenhof, Mario Rodriguez scored the opener after 34 minutes in a Friendly against Hoffenheim. The rest of the match didn't go so well for the home team, as they fall 1 - 4, but a great start for Mario

Emerson Hyndman was on the bench for Rangers at the start of the match as they played a Friendly against Bundesliga #2 RB Leipzig - and the differences were glaring as Rangers fall 4 - 0. Emerson got his chance debuting and playing the 2nd half.

GK Benjamin Machini on the bench (he is the #2 backup GK) for Barakaldo CF in Spain's Segunda Division B (Group 2) as they handed a thumpin' on Socuellamos. Barakaldo were up 4 - 0 at the half.

Reduced to 10 men in the 2nd half, they held that score for the remaining time resulting in a move up to 10th spot (4 points out of a promotional play-off position)
