WEEKEND WRAP: Sunday 4/30/2016 Features a Hat-trick, End-of-Season Drama

Interesting day today. The battles for promotion/relegation are really down to the wire. A few leagues are done for the season, with some into (or going into) there 2nd season (Play-Offs) to determine promotion, relegation, European spots for next season.

Today we had a Hat-Trick in Sweden from Eddy Prugh and goals in Germany (Royal Fennell) and Israel (Aaron Schoenfeld). Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath had a shut-out, and Tim Howard started for Everton (Coach Roberto Martinez had announced that Tim would see out his time at Everton as the starter)
OK to the list.......

USMNT Perry Kitchen started and played 90, as Hearts were overpowered 1 - 3 by Celtic in Scotland's Premier League, in what was a meaningless game for both teams (top 3 qualify for Europe, #1 Celtic - UCL #3 Heart's - Europa)

USMNT Alejandro Bedoya started and went 90 as Nantes won 1 - 0 over Nice in France Ligue 1

Devante Parker came of the bench and played 17 minutes in Mainz II's 3 - 2 loss at Aalen in Germany's 3Liga

Royal Fennell, started, went 90, and Scored the winning goal for Wurzburger as they visited Cottbus and grabbed 3 points in a 1 - 2 win - Wurzburger, who have won 4 of their last 5 are in the promotion play-off spot in Germany 3Liga, with 2 games left

Marc Heider, started on the bench, joining the action at 60 minutes, and picked up a late yellow card as Kiel beat Stuttgart II 1 - 0, USYNT Joel Sonora dressed, but did not play for Stuttgart II

Ken Gipson started and went 63 minutes in RB Leipzig II 2 - 1 win over Schonberg in Regionalliga Nordost

Charlie Rugg (26) and Trier failed to hold off USYNT Caleb Stanko (90 & yellow card) and Freiburg II in a 1 - 2 Freiburg win in Regionalliga Sudwest. Yup! Caleb was in the 18 for Freiburg's senior squad yesterday.

Aaron Valentini got 15 minutes in for Jena II as they thumped Cottbus II 4 - 0 in Oberliga NOFV Sud

Charlie Butte started 90 as Burgbrohl beat Rochl. Volklingen 1 - 0 in Oberliga Pfalz/Saar

Eddie Prugh started, went 90, picked up a yellow card and SCORED A HAT-TRICK for Bodens BK as they beat Ange IF 3 - 5 in Sweden's Division 2 (Norrland) The game also saw Chase Miller go the full 90

Bryan Gaul started and went 90 for Bahlinger in their 1 - 3 loss to Homberg in Regionalliga Sudwest

Ryan Malone got 6 minutes on the pitch today as #6 Magdeburg thrashed #5 Sonnenhof 4 - 0

Douglas Bentley, started and went 90 as AlbinoLeffe fell 1 - 2 to Lumezzane in Italy's Lega Pro (Group A)

GK Paul Rachubka, was in 18 (DNP) as Bolton won 1 - 0 over Hull in the English Championship

USMNT Christian Pulisic, in 18 (DNP) as Dortmund thumped Wolfsburg 5 - 1 in Bundesliga

USMNT Alfredo Morales started and went 90 as Ingolstadt visited Hoffenheim and lost 2 - 1

Babajide Ogunbiyi, started went 90 in Hobro's 1 - 2 home loss to Sondrjyske, in Denmark Superliga

As promised by coach Martinez, USMNT GK Tim Howard started and went 90 as Everton beat Bournemouth 2 - 1 in the EPL. Martinez had said that Tim would see out his career at Everton by playing in this seasons final games.

USMNT Geoff Cameron and Stoke looked like they had the win over USMNT DeAndre Yedlin and Sunderland, until 90+4 when Sunderland scored (PK) creating a 1 - 1 draw, and some hope to Sunderland who a battling to avoid relegation

USMNT Brad Guzan was in 18 (DNP) as Aston Villa suffer another embarrassing loss ( the gave up 2 goals 90th and 90 +3 ) 3 - 2 at Watford

Fulham and USMNT Tim Ream (90) and USMNT Emerson Hyndman (25) were easy meat for Brentford as Fulham fall 3 - 0 in the English Championship

USMNT Eric Lichaj, started went 90 and picked up a yellow card, as Nottingham drew 1 - 1 at home with Wolves

USMNT Danny Williams was back for Reading, giving a solid 90 minutes for his team before they gave up an ET goal and fell 1 - 2 to Preston

Adam Henley was in the 18 (DNP) for Blackburn as the visited Rotherham and came away with the win 0 - 1

USYNT Gboly Ariyibi went into ET before being subbed out in a convincing 3 - 0 Chesterfield win over Bury in England's League 1

Zak Whitbread (90) and Shrewsbury made a real fight of it after falling 0 - 3 behind visitors Peterborough, tieing the game at 3 - 3 in the 89th minute, before succumbing to a 90+4 goal from the visitors and falling 3 - 4

USYNT Shane O'Neill in 18 (DNP) and Cambridge ended their game with Plymouth at 2 - 2. Cambridge played fairly well this season but just miss out on a promotion playoff spot.

Kevin Dzierzawski left the game between #3 Peterhead and #1 Dunfermline in Scotland's League One very early (20). I haven't seen the game report yet, but generally an early exit like this is an injury, more when I find out. Peterhead went on to lose the game 1 - 0. Peterhead have really collapsed losing their last 5 games, which may be the result of an early qualification for promotional play-off spot, we'll have to wait and see if they can up their game.

USYNT Romain Gall, started and went 90 in Nykopings 0 - 0 draw with Forward in Sweden Division 1 (Norra)

USYNT Kristian Scott started and went 90 minutes in Nuneaton's 3 - 0 win over Hednesford Town in Vanarama National League North, Nuneaton just missed out on the promotional play-offs, they had been hoping that 2 of the teams above stumbled today - but it was not to be. (Note: Nuneaton had been charged -3 points for disciplinary - with the 3 points they would have ended 3rd in the league)

USMNT GK Ethan Horvath kept a clean sheet, and Molde scored at 90 +3 to beat Aalesund 1 - 0 a result that keeps Molde in 2nd place

GK Brendan Moore who has been so spectacular while on loan to Torquay had a horrid last day of the season. Torquay visited Guiseley and lost 4 - 3, still because of Brendan's heroics Torquay avoided relegation this season. Brendan will return to Fleetwood (we have GK Alek Gogic there as Back-up keeper) in League One today. Fleetwood are hoping to avoid the drop into League 2, we will have to see what happens next for Brendan. Brendan finished his spell at Torquay with 11 games, gave up 10 goals, had 6 shut-outs - not bad at all.

Jon-Paul Pittman started and went 90 for Grimsby as they tried to get back to winning ways, unfortunately a last day funk set in and Grimsby lost 1 - 0 at Tranmere. Next up for Grimsby will be a promotional play-off game. Lets hope they can get back to their early season form.

Aaron Schoenfeld started, went 90 and Scored for H. Tel Aviv as they held on for a 3 - 3 draw with H. Haifa in Israel. This was Aaron's 5th goal (5 starts / 11 appearances) since joining H Tel Aviv in February (pretty good acquisition) from the Columbus Crew.

WEEKEND WRAP: Sunday 4/24/2016 Features More Red Cards than Goals, Opening Day for Ykkonen in Finland

You would think that American Players fill the lower leagues of Finland based on the number on the rosters for today's opening day. But actually the numbers a down quite a bit. Finland, especially the lower leagues, has been a favorite of young Americans entering the pro leagues, but now, with the expansions of NASL and USL the numbers are much lower. Following the Leagues in Finland has always been a favorite thing for me, so I am happy that there are still enough to keep track of.
Not a big goals day today, actually only 1, there were more red cards than goals, 2. There were a few games with Promotion/Relegation implications, and a couple of players who appeared on their teams rosters for the first time.
OK lets go to the list.

Also in Ykkonen, Isaac Kannah, who is a dual US/Liberia, went 90 as his team KTP drw with JJK Jyvaskyla

DeAndre Yedlin started and went 90 as Sunderland held Arsenal to a Goalless draw in the EPL. The Relegation battle between Sunderland, Norwich and Newcastle looks likely to go down to the wire - with only 1 point separating the 3 teams

In Finland's Veikkausliiga Brian Span and Mariehamn played HJK to a goalless draw, Brian went 80 minutes and picked up a yellow card

Fabian Johnson came off the bench at the 81st minute as M'Gladbach welcomed Hoffenheim in Bundesliga, in a game with European football implications for M'Gladbach and relegation implications for Hoffenheim. M'Gladbach won 3 - 1and are in 5th (Europa League spot) Hoffenheim are 2 points clear of the drop zone

In Norway's Tippeligaen, Molde visited Sarpsborg and hit a brick wall as they were trounced 4 - 0. an unusual feeling for GK Ethan Horvath.

Oh Dear, in Denmark's Superliga, George Fochive went 90 + 3 for Viborg before recieving his 2nd Yellow/Red card. Viborg scored first and held on till #1 FC Copenhagen equalized late. George received his yellow/red in an 8 minute span, as Viborg played Copenhagen to a 1 - 1 draw

Nermin Crnkic started for Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia's Fortuna liga as they hosted cellar dweller Skalica Nermin only played the first half as Bratislava's coach made a mass substitution to start the 2nd half - Slovan win 2 - 0

Kenny Saif started for Gent as they take on Genk in an away game that will help decide a European spot next season (Gent #3 Genk #4) Kenny received a straight Red in minute 44 - not good. Gent did win the game 1 - 2 on a 90 + 2 PK

WEEKEND WRAP: Saturday 4/23/2016 - Features 7 Goals (over 2 days) and Promotion/Relegation Battles

Many European season's are winding down, and as that happens the excitement is ratcheted up. This weekend we find teams in Scotland getting it done Rangers will be in the Premier League, Hearts will play in Europe, and Peterhead will be playing in the Championship - congratulations to them. In England, we already know that Aston Villa will drop into the Championship, Bolton and MK Don's will be playing in League One next season. In Germany, Bayern and Dortmund are set for UCL play next season, 5 teams are battling it out for the remaining 4 European spots. At the bottom of Bundesliga its just as frantic, Eintracht Frankfurt look to be relegated, with 4 teams battling to stay in the top league. In 2Liga, Freiburg and Red Bull Leipzig look set for promotion, while FSV Frankfurt and Dusseldorf are fighting to stay alive. In 3Liga, Wurzburger still have a shot at promotion while Stuttgart II look to be playing in Regionalliga next season. There are a slew of upcoming games that will decide the fates of these teams and others this site follows.
So the good stuff - 3 Goals on Friday, USYNT Romain Gall gets his first for Nykopings, Fafa Picault lets Klinsmann know that it wasn't a fluke, when the boss came to town last weekend, and happy to see (for me anyway) Jann George is back to his scoring ways.
Today - well - we had another goal from Christian Pulisic (media blitz) and there is no doubt that he has upped his game recently. Devante Parker, scored for Mainz II in a losing effort, Alfredo Morales is back to match fitness and scoring again for Ingolstadt (his first in Bundesliga), finally Ryan Finley scored his 2nd goal in his 3 appearances for Angelholms in Sweden - add to all that an assist by Eric Lichaj in Nottingham's win over Fulham, and an assist from Bobby Wood in Union Berlin's loss.
Lots of action today, so lets get to the list;

FRIDAY:

Romain Gall Scored his first in his 2nd game for Nykopings in Sweden Division 1. at Vasteras SK

Fafa Picault (81) yellow card, Scored the tieing goal for St Pauli as they drew 1 - 1 with Dusseldorf

Marc Heider came off the bench in the 86th minute as Kiel could not breakdown home team Sonnenhof's defense in a goalless draw also in 3Liga

Royal Fennel started, went 90, and picked up a yellow card as Wurzburger held off visitors Rostock 2 - 1 in their 3Liga match . Wurzburger are still in the hunt for promotion

It only took Alfredo Morales 10 minutes to Score Ingolstadt's 1st goal as they hosted Hannover in Bundesliga. After taking a 2 - 0 lead into half-time they could not hold the lead as the game ended as a 2 - 2 draw, with Alfredo going 90

Christian Pulisic started, went 76, picked up a yellow card and Scored (his 2nd) for Dortmund as they visited Stuttgart and came away 0 - 3 winners. Here the shouts for a spot in USMNT for Copa

GK Brad Guzan started for Aston Villa as they welcomed Southampton to Villa Park, the relegated Aston Villa could not provide enough defense for Brad and they fell 2 - 4

Matt Miazga was in the 18 (DNP) for Chelsea as they battled at Bournemouth to a 1 - 4 win

GK Paul Rachubka was in the 18 (DNP) as Bolton fell 2 - 1 at Cardiff in the English Championship (Bolton are relegated)

Jonathan Spector stayed on the bench for Birmingham as they drew 1 - 1 with Huddersfield

The nightmare continues for GK Cody Cropper, fresh off his red card suspension, he started for MK Dons but only lasted 45 minutes (injury) as they were hammered 1 - 4 by Brentford - the loss puts them back into League One next season with Bolton. So two teams with Americans drop a league.

GK Alek Gogic was in 18 (DNP) for Fleetwood as they drew 0 - 0 with Blackpool - both teams are in trouble at the bottom of League One - where Fleetwood maintain a 2 point lead over Blackpool (1 of these 2 will be relegated)

Shane O'Neill was in 18 (DNP) as Cambridge visited Nott's County and came away with all 3 points in a 1 - 2 win

Jon-Paul Pittman came off the bench at 70th minute, but #3 Grimsby lost their home game against Chester 1 - 2 (Grimsby are still in a promotional play-off spot, but they have been inconsistent and the teams below have whittled away their lead)

The normally safe GK Brendan Moore gave up an extra time goal and Torquay had to settle for a 2 - 2 draw with Barrow. Torquay are 5 points above the drop but should be safe.

USYNT Kristian Scott started for Nuneaton as they lost 2 - 1 at Boston. Kristian has become a regular for Nuneaton.

In Scotland Perry Kitchen, went 90 and picked up a yellow card as #3 Hearts fell 1 - 0 at #5 Motherwell in the Championship Group (for European spots) of the Scottish Premier League. Hearts are guaranteed a Europa League spot as Motherwell are to far behind to catch them. So Europa League football for Perry next season

In a weird turn, #3 Peterhead and Kevin Dzierzawski are Promoted even though they lost big to #2 Ayr 0 - 4 at home - congrats to Kevin and Peterhead who will play in Scotland's Championship next season

Andrew Stadler was in the 18 (DNP) as Ostersunds visited Gefle in Sweden's Allsvenskan, a game that ended in a goalless draw

Its been a busy weekend so far, plenty of goals, a couple of debuts, Goalkeepers making news with a shut-out and a red card. 3 Americans have 2 goal games, Haji Wright debuts and scores twice,  Fafa Picault was on his game with 2 for St.Pauli and Bryan Gaul hits 2 for Bahlinger in his 2nd game for his new team (that's 3 goals in 2 games) Romain Gall joined Haji Wright with his debut today for Nykoping in Sweden's Division 1. Goalkeepers make the news as well, Brendan Moore gets another shut-out, that's 6 in the last 10 games for his loan club Torquay United, and Cody Cropper who has just had a 2 match horror story since his promotion to starting GK ( a huge loss last week & a red card today) although it must be said overall he has performed well. I have added a couple of things from yesterday of note....Chelsea U19 reach the final of the EUFA Youth League and that man Charlie Rugg scores again, that gives him 5 goals in the last 6 games.

Andrew Stadler started for his team Ostersunds in Sweden and scored their 2nd goal, as they held on for their first win of the young season and away from home. Usually safe keeper Matt Pyzdrowski had a horrendous day, letting in 5. Paul Torres got his debut in at Sirius, even though it was only for a few minutes. WEEKEND WRAP: Saturday 4/9/2016 Features 6 Goals - But Not From Where You Think

So another busy Saturday Wrap. Crunch time in many leagues, and first games in others. Today we had 6 goals by Americans, although none came in games, leagues where you would expect. So nice surprises. Most enjoyable of all, Emerson Hyndman gets his first club goal at any level for Fulham, and he got it in extra-time (90+3) to give Fulham the win (OH! and its his 20th Birthday). We had a goal in Sweden, Eddy Prugh's first of the season. Bryan Gaul (yup ex LAG) scored his first goal for Bahlinger in Germany, and another in Germany from Alassane Kane. We also had goals in Slovakia, Nermin Crnkic and Luxembourg Omar Ontiveros. Goal Keepers had a mixed day, Daniel Schmidt(Japan) and Josh Wicks (Sweden) had shut-outs, but Cody Cropper (England) was punished and Brad Guzan and Paul Rachubka (England) are probably relegated.

So here's the full list;

GK Daniel Schmidt started, went 90 and got the shut-out as Yamaga beat Tokushima in Japan's J-League 2

In Germany Liga2, Shawn Barry started, went 90 as Frankfurt visited Bochum in a bit of a lop-sided game with Bochum winning 4 - 1

Seems to be the score to get today in Liga2. Andrew Wooten and Sandhausen hosted Bielefeld, both teams in mid-table. Andrew went 90 minutes as Sandhausen falls 1 - 4.

In Ukraine Premier League, Eugene Starikov, was in the 18 (DNP) for Ch. Odessa as they won their home game 1 - 0 over Hoverla Uzhhorod.

In England EPL, Brad Guzan and Aston Villa lose again, 1 - 2 to Bournemouth, and are basically relegated - no news on Guzan's future yet, but it probably won't be long.

GK Paul Rachubka was in 18 (DNP) as Bolton lose 4 - 1 at Derby, and will now plan for League One football next season

It has not been good for Cody Cropper and MK Don's since he was named starting GK. Today's 0 - 4 loss to fellow strugglers Rotherham did not help as they are now likely to be relegated from the Championship

DAILY WRAP: 4/5/2016 - English Championship Features

So there was enough action going on across the pond to create a Daily Wrap today. We had another goal from Charlie Rugg in Germany, an OG in the Championship, as well as some (possible) good news for 2 US Players. Cody Cropper found out today that he will be the starting Goalkeeper for the rest of the season for MK Don's ( their #1 is injured) great opportunity to shine. From London, Arsenal reportedly have high hopes for Gedion Zelalem. English newspaper  The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Zelalem will be given the chance to earn a spot on the Arsenal first team this summer. Lets hope that Arsenal will be doing and not just saying - unlike Rangers Mark Warburton who says and doesn't do.

Lets get to the list

GK Paul Rachubka, sat on the bench and watch Bolton fall 3 - 1 at Brentford in the English Championship

Tim Ream only played the first half of Fulham's match as they visited Preston. But that was enough for him to be credited on Assist for Fulham's first goal.  Fulham beat 10th place Preston 1 - 2 - putting them 7 points clear of the drop zone with 7 points in the last 3 games. Report of why Ream left the game early - Injury (precautionary).

Oh Dear! An OG by Adam Henley gifted a 2 - 1 win for Sheffield Wednesday over Blackburn. Adam did start and went 90.

Also in Vanarama National League, GK Brendan Moore posted another shut-out as Torquay beat Chester 2 - 0. It should be noted that Torquay have won 3 of their last 5, since Brendan joined the team and have climbed from 23rd (2nd from bottom) to 18th (they are not quite safe yet, but close)

In Scotland's Championship, the Rangers coach continues to praise Gedion Zelalem, and then not play him. Gedion was in the 18 for today's game. In a statement this AM, Arsenal announced it's intention to push Gedion towards first team play for Arsenal (over the summer) in anticipation of next season. Oh, Rangers won 1 - 0 over Dumbarton  **Rangers secured promotion to the Scottish Premier next year.**

Great Game for Reading as they overcame a first half deficit, to win 2 - 1 over Nottingham (missing Eric Lichaj suspended/Red Card). Danny Williams started and went 90 minutes in the victory.

In the English Championship, Bolton and GK Paul Rachubka, hosted Reading and Danny Williams. The hapless Bolton demoted Paul to the bench (DNP) and Reading started Danny Williams, who went the 90 minutes, as Reading won this one 0 - 1. Bolton are 9 points adrift at the bottom of the league, (12 points from safety) and I think its safe to say will be in League One next season.

Tim Ream started for Fulham as they hosted Cody Cropper and MK Don's. Fulham won this one 2 - 1, with Tim putting in 90 minutes for Fulham, and Cody the same (90) for MK Don's. (Emerson Hyndman was not in Fulham's 18)

Nottingham Forest and Eric Lichaj season just keeps getting worse, with only 4 points from the last 5 games they have dropped out of any contention for post season play. Today could not have been worse losing 0 - 3 at home to Brentford and having Eric (RED) sent off on 2 yellows (within a 5 minute period)

In League One, Chesterfield, playing at home, found themselves down 0 - 1 at the half. Gboly Ariyibi came off the bench to play the 2nd half and inspired Chesterfield to a 4 - 2 win over Port Vale. Gboly Scored Chesterfields 3rd (and eventual winning) goal - his first of the season. Today's win lifted Chesterfield 5 points clear of the drop.

Zak Whitbread found himself on the wrong end of a drubbing as League One leaders Wigan visited Shrewsbury and came away 1 - 5 winners. Zak went 90 for Shrewsbury who now find themselves only 5 points clear from the relegation zone.

TRANSFERS: Ex NE REV Defender Jossimar Sanchez Joins Narpes Kraft in Finland

Jossimar Sanchez at Nykopings
24 year old, Right Back,  from Patterson NJ, Jossimar Sanchez has left Nykopings in Sweden to join Narpes Kraft in Finland. He celebrated the move by scoring a goal in his debut. I believe that this is Jossimar's first professional goal.

Jossimar joined NE Revolution from the UConn Huskies in 2013 and (with a few loans) stayed with the Revolution till 2015, when he joined Nykopings in Sweden. At Nykopings he played 23 times during the 2014/15 season.

Narpes Kraft also have American Kyle Knotek on the squad. Narpes play in Kakkonen (Group C) which is the 3rd tier of football in Finland.

Good Luck Jossimar

TRANSFERS: Tristan Bowen moves from KuPS in Finland to AFC in Sweden

Tristan (center) at KuPS
Forward Tristan Bowen has left KuPS is Finland for AFC United in Sweden. Tristan joins GK Josh Wicks in the Swedish Superettan (2nd tier) just in time for the start of the Swedish League's new season. According to AFC Tristan will be used on the right wing.

Tristan has become a bit of a journeyman (or maybe just unsettled) coming through the LA Galaxy system ultimately playing for the senior squad LA Galaxy. Then the moves begin, Chivas USA, KSV in Belgium, the Seattle Sounders and the New England Revolution, before joining KuPS in August last year, where he scored 3 goals in 13 appearances.  All that and still only 26.

I sure hope that Tristan has found a home in Sweden, we will all be watching.
