WEEKEND WRAP: Sunday 5/1/2016 Features Young American Guns Finding The Target

Today saw the young guns making themselves known around the world. Christian Pulisic, Haji Wright both had goals, Gideon Zelalem and Omar Castro both represented their teams, while Rubio Ruben and Dylan Romney were both in their teams 18. (Kenny Saief and Patrick Tshiani both played 90 minutes for their teams - but neither has represented the US) This all seems to indicate a bright future for US Soccer (Obviously this is just from today
We had the start of the Iceland season this weekend, and also the Philippines (yes we have a number of players there as well) Keep checking back with Acrossthepond with updates on players from these and other lesser known leagues. It is often difficult to get information with the likes of Google, and I contact the teams directly hoping they will respond - case in hand Harrison Hanley who scored twice on Saturday for a Icelandic Division 2 side. Harrison (24) is a forward out of Santa Monica CA. who last season scored often for Mikkeli in Finland. I know that he was trialing with Njardvik, he scored in their final pre-season game a little over a week ago, but signing for the club was (still is) an unknown. Different Leagues have different rules so that Harrison played and scored both of Njardvik's goals yesterday in an Iceland Cup game does not confirm he signed. I have contacted the club and I am waiting for a response.

So lets go to the list.......

Yesterday, Harrison Hanley Scored 2 for Njardvik in their 2 - 1 win in the Iceland Cup. Last season Harrison was with Mikkeli in Finland's Ykkonen

Scotland's Championship has completed its regular season, and USYNT Gedion Zelalem (19) played 74 minutes for Rangers in their final match at St. Mirren. Rangers are planning ahead for the Premiership next season and Gedion must plan for potential 1st team play for Arsenal next season (Coach Wenger has stated his intent to give him that opportunity)

USMNT Christian Pulisic (17) started and went 90, Scoring Dortmund U19's 6th goal in a 6 - 0 drubbing of Duisburg U19. Christian was an unused sub yesterday for the senior squad.

Omar Castro (20) started and went 90 for Braunschweig II as they drew 1 - 1 with Havalese in Regionalliga Nord

Kenny Saief (22) and Gent lost at Anderlecht 2 - 0 in the championship Group in Belgium. Kenny went 90 in the 6th of 10 game championship series (Belgium uses this playoff system to choose who will represent in European competition next season). Gent currently sit in 3rd place (3 point behind Anderlecht) which would place them in Europa League.

USYNT Rubio Rubin (20) was in 18 (DNP) as Utrecht visited Vitesse and won 3 - 0 in Netherlands Eredivisie.

USYNT Haji Wright (18) started for Schalke U19, went 71 minutes and Scored Schalke's 3rd goal as they beat Wuppertaler 3 - 1. So in the A Junioren Bundesliga West, its Christian Pulisic and Dortmund at #1(winning the championship) and Haji Wright and Schalke #2. There is one game left for both teams but whatever the results the league is settled.

Dylan Romney (20) was an unused sub for Savona as they won 1 - 0 over Pistoiese in Italy's Lega Pro (Group B)

Ryan Finley started, went 90 for Angelholms in a huge early season 0 - 4 defeat by Varnamo in Sweden's Superettan.

Patrick Tshiani (20) started went 90 in KRC Mechelen's 1 - 1 draw at #2 Saint Eloois in Belgium's 3rd Division...KRC now sink into the oblivion of 4th Division football having been relegated.

USYNT Eric Palmer-Brown (19) started, went 90 and picked up a yellow card as Porto B visited Sporting B in Portugal's Segunda Liga and came away with a 1 - 1 draw

Dion Acoff started and went 90 in Throttur's defeat in  Iceland's Pepsideild. Throttur playing there first game of the season and having just been promoted into Iceland's top league, found the going tough against Hafnarfjordur as they fell 0 - 3.

Alex de John started and went 90 as Start hosted Strömsgodset in Norway's Tippeligaen. Start had to come back from a goal down twice and settle for a 2 - 2 draw. Start have had a shaky start to the season with 4 draws and 4 loses in its 8 games.

GK Alex Horwath, was in the 18 (DNP) as Brann fall 1 - 0 at Tromso also in Tippeligaen

Cole Grossman got his second start of the season for Stabaek, went 90,  as they hosted Odd. The game started well enough with a Stabaek goal in 2 minutes, but then Odd responded in the 5th minute(whew!) But lacking that Bradley Sr. defense they succumbed to the pressure from Odd and ended with a 1 - 2 loss. Since Bob left its been a riches to rag's team.
